“The mission of the Literacy Council of Midland County is to provide customized tutoring in reading and related skills to people of all ages so that they can be self-sufficient in the 21st century."
Programs we offer:
1. Adult Basic Education
2. English as a Second Language
3. Dyslexia Clinic (Adults & Children)*
- School-based program at local elementary schools. Our pilot school-based program is at Coleman Elementary School.
- Family literacy program with West Midland Family Center
- Tutoring for adults and children at various sites
4. Workforce Literacy (at MichiganWorks! facility)
5. Instructional Outreach (partnership with Juvenile Care Center)
6. Gift of Reading (book distribution program)
* Because Literacy Council uses volunteers trained only in our dyslexia system, we do not have the ability to tutor persons with Autism, Asperger’s or other conditions beyond the scope of dyslexia. Professionals in those selective areas of expertise must be consulted for appropriate educational instructional.
